IIFYM: FLEXIBLE DIETING

( flexible dieting 101 ^^ )

Before I tell you about my diet/why I eat the way I do, let me preface this by saying that I'm not a professional anything ( except maybe a profesh princess, lol ) and you should definitely do your research + consult w/ a healthcare provider before making any crazy changes.

Anyways. I follow the IIFYM ( if it fits your macros ) diet, which is also known as "flexible dieting." Basically, I just calculate my daily intake of macronutrients ( fats, carbs, protein ) and make sure I hit certain numbers ( in grams!! ) for each.

The numbers I need to hit for my macronutrients are unique to ME. That being said, to calculate your own numbers, I recommend this website.

( & don't worry if you don't know your body fat percentage; it'll still give you accurate macros!! )

Flexible dietin' ain't easy. There's a lot of planning involved, and you've got to be super diligent about tracking your macro intake; this means using a food scale, a tracking app/website ( i recommend myfitnesspal ), + you've got to be willing to sometimes eat random things to hit your macros.

Due to my training schedule ( << post on this coming soon!! ), my macro intake is high carb, high protein. During my first week of IIFYM, i lost 12lbs.

Remember, that was definitely a lot of water weight; ever since I've switched to IIFYM, I've been chugging water like it's my day job.

IIFYM isn't a green light to eat whatever the heck you want, but as long as something fits into your macros, you can go for it. IIFYM is all about balance + moderation. ( << something we could all use a lil bit more of in our lives, hmm? )

I don't like eating crap foods, and due to the caloric deficit created by my macros, I've gotta be smart about what I'm putting in my bod. I'm all about eating for fuel + performance, not for stress relief/pleasure/etc.

I like to eat lower cal, high volume foods ( think: a big salad, slushy protein shake, fluffy egg whites ) It's like tricking your body into thinking that you're fuller while eating a lower amount of cals. More bang for your buck.

I'll definitely be sharing some of my recipes + other fitness favs in the future, so keep your eye out for that.

What are your current nutrition habits? ( i hate the word "diet," lol. )
